초록보기

Jiadong Township, located in Pingtung County Taiwan, is renowned as a historic town. Not only does its density of historical relics rank as the highest in the county, the township also boasts the only ancient Hakka Wu Jin big house in Taiwan; with rooms which were designed for many relatives to live together. Furthermore, the Jiadong Township preserves many traditional Hakka buildings and architecture; such as the Hakka settlement, long lane, old buildings and mansions.
Liu Qiwei (1997), a senior cultural anthropologist and professor mentioned “if art and aesthetic cannot intertwine with life, it will not take root into the culture. Only through daily usage and generational accumulation can the beauty of civilization be realized and developed in all aspects of life (e.g., food, fashion, housing, transportation, education, and entertainment).” (Lu, 2009). Consequently, art, aesthetic and culture affects the human development and their daily lives.
The following study is based on the mural paintings and Hakka poetry planks displayed in the old Street of Donggen Road, Jiadong Township. Through in-depth literature reviews, field investigation, interviews and statistical analysis, the research results can be used to preserve and record the Hakka culture in its entirety. Moreover these findings can be digitalized and implemented in mobile self-guided tours, and adopted as references for future community development.

초록보기

The longer the traveler travels from home to the destination, the more s/he spends at the destination. This is a “law” long known in tourism development studies. However, in this world of advancing transportation technology, does it still hold true?
The most accurate method of its examination can be attained by conducting a large scale survey to tourists with a scope wide enough to represent the population, asking their location of residence, destination of travel and the amount spent at the destination. However, this paper verifies the validity of the law by using existing tourism and transportation statistics.
The statistics used in this study are: 1) Japan Tourism Agency's “Tourism Consumption Data”, which provides the average total amount paid for a trip by tourists and their distance travelled; 2) Transport Ministry's “Passenger Travel Mode Survey”, which provides the share of the transportation mode used in a given travel sector; and 3) “Accommodation Statistics”, which sheds light on the number of nights stayed and the amount spent for accommodations. These data, after calculation adjustments, will show the amount paid for a trip, besides transportation and accommodations, by tourists and their distance of travel
Japan has 47 prefectures. The study compared the amount, as achieved from above calculation process, of tourists traveling from Tokyo and its three neighboring prefectures to all other 43 prefectures. As a result of this comparison, the correlation coefficient between the distance travelled and the amount spent was 0.71, showing strong positive correlation.
The significance of the proof of the “law” to the tourism developers will be that it does make sense to invest more in promoting long-distance travelers, and when a tourist destination is expecting a new mode of transportation connecting a far market, it should prepare for larger tourist consumption.

This study explores the relationships between the mental well-being and the marital satisfaction among women at various stages of married life in Najafabad and Fuladshahr in Iran. The statistical population under consideration consists of 757 married women (381 respondents in Najafabad and 376 in Fuladshahr) for at least 3 years, who answered both itemized questions about their mental well-being and marital satisfaction. Marital satisfaction was found to be positively correlated with the mental well-being, so that higher mental well-being was associated with a greater satisfaction. Another finding was that the level of marital satisfaction and duration of the marriage were negatively correlated for women.
The present study sheds light on several notions of person-environment interaction theory. It is also the first to indicate a relationship between the potential vulnerability of the women and the characteristics of the environment among the Iranian participants in different cities. Like other findings on the relationship between marital satisfaction and well-being, however, these findings are cohort-specific as the relationship depends on the context in which the marriage takes place.

초록보기

Whilst considerable attention has been given to the role of cultural tourism in city development and the 'gentrification' of inner city areas, there has been little research into the experiences of cultural tourists. Past research shows that their experience is conceptualised as a 'pre-programmed' product made especially for mass consumption. It is often assumed that the commoditization of urban tourism results in 'standardised' city environments, loss of culture and traditions, loss of place distinctiveness and subsequent loss of 'authenticity'. According to this line of reasoning, cultural tourists consume 'specimens of the artificial' which are mass produced, predictable, standardised and superficial. By implication the commoditization of cultural tourism destroys the 'authenticity' of the traveller's experience (see Featherstone, 1991, Sheller and Urry, 2004). This logic raises questions about the hermeneutic problem entailed in any conceptualisation of 'authenticity'
The central focus of this theoretical paper is the debate concerning the consumption oftourists' cultural experiences within the context of city tourism. Issues associated with the various dimensions of 'authenticity' that inform cultural tourism studies are critically assessed. Finally, by way of conclusion the paper offers a fresh perspective for understanding the consumption of urban cultural experiences.

초록보기

The 4th European Congress of Rural Tourism in October of 2012 highlighted the role of rural tourism in the development of rural space, maintenance of rural community and culture heritage.
In Latvia, as in many European countries, tourism has gained significant importance in rural areas and what is more important - cultural heritage becomes a product of tourism. In rural areas, tourism expands as rural tourism, as well as farm tourism. The authors sought to explain the problems, the scale and structure of these problems, and their relation to cultural heritage as a tourism product. The study indicates that practically it is necessary to carry out work with the people involved in tourism to develop their knowledge and skills regarding cultural heritage and its potentialities (courses and seminars), and at the same time create educational programs in the industry for the supply of new professionals (study programs in higher education institutions).
